My name is William P, Matthews. I am a descendent of Sampson Stewart of Guilford County. He purchased about 400 acres of land in 1778, but we don’t know exactly when he left Ireland. We also know that he was a revolutionary war soldier, but that is all we know. I believe it is safe to assume he would have participated in this battle so close to his home. I am a retired US Army LTC and I use his persona to speak to school children about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. My website is excelleneagle.com. I am making a presentation next week at a Matthews Family Reunion and I intend to outline the Battle of Guilford Courthouse as a part of my presentation. I would also like to visit next year during the reinactment. I may also be interested in membership in your organization. Keep up the good work!
